Amendment Directions to EPS
Release 2 of the Electronic Prescription Service , where prescriptions can be transmitted electronically, introduces significant benefits for patients, prescribers and dispensers. These Directions, which came into force on 1 December 2008, enable the 17 PCTs (Release 2 initial implementers) listed in the Schedule to authorise their primary medical services contractors or any practice established by the PCT to use the Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions (ETP) service. The Directions are accompanied by guidance for all PCTs, to support their implementation.
The Amendment Directions, which came into force on 1 July 2009, correct the names of two of the 17 PCTs listed in the Schedule'.

New model template for commissioning health checks from community pharmacy
Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for England, Dr Keith Ridge, has written to PCT Chief Pharmacists to promote a new model template designed to help PCTs who may wish to commission NHS Health Checks from community pharmacy.

(03/02/09) Briefing paper on pharmacy applications and PCT oral hearings
PCTs may hold oral hearings to consider applications for new pharmacies. This paper outlines the provisions within the NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2005 and provides PCT with a procedure based on good practice.

(22/1/09) Building Foundations for Pharmacy
Following on from the recent Pharmacy events two documents have been produced to support PCT staff involved in the commissioning of Pharmaceutical services. The first is a glossary of terms and the second contains web links for the various Regulations, Directions and guidance documents relating to Pharmaceutical Services, so that PCTs have all the relevant reference information available in one document.

The Pharmacy White Paper 'Pharmacy in England; Building on Strengths - Delivering the Future' was published on 3rd April 2008 and represents the government's road map for how pharmacy will develop in the future.
