The PATHway project at St Mary's Maternity Hospital, Manchester, was designed to improve the physical and mental health outcomes for women and their children who are affected by domestic abuse and attending maternity and gynaecological services at St Mary’s by providing advice and information on options to improve safety and advocacy.
It has delivered the following outcomes:
- The safety of women and children attending St Mary’s has been improved
- Early intervention with women experiencing abuse in pregnancy has occurred
- The number of South Asian women using the IDVA service in Manchester has increased
- Midwives response through routine enquiry has been enhanced
- Midwives have become more competent in recognising and responding to domestic abuse
