Commissioning guidance on related topics

There is currently no official Government guidance on some topics, so in these areas the links are to guidance developed by third sector organisations, which commissioners may find useful.

At the Forced Marriage Unit, trained professionals offer confidential advice and assistance to those who have been forced into marriage, those at risk of being forced into marriage, people worried about friends or relatives and professionals working with actual or potential victims of forced marriage (including forced marriage multi-agency practice guidelines). The FGM practice guidelines for practitioners were out for consultation until 3rd December. Once all the responses have been considered the Foreign Office will publish final guidance - hopefully in the Spring.

NHS Evidence have a collection of information on all types of commissioning. The collection endeavours to include the best available evidence, examples of good practice, policy and data to support world class commissioning for health and wellbeing.

Women's Aid have published Commissioning Domestic Violence Services: A Quick Guide for all those involved in the commissioning and provision of services for victims/survivors of domestic violence.

The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV have produced Standards for the Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections which cover all aspects of the management of STIs. Commissioners may find the Key Performance Indicators in Annex E (p.68) particularly useful.

Caring for Trafficked Persons brings together the collective experience of a broad range of experts from international organizations, universities and civil society in addressing the consequences of human trafficking. Developed with the support of the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking, and led by IOM and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the handbook provides practical, non-clinical advice to help a concerned health provider understand the phenomenon of human trafficking, recognize some of the associated health problems and consider safe and appropriate approaches to providing healthcare for trafficked persons.
