Ipsos MORI has published the results from Qs1-3 of the 2009/10 GP Patient Survey. Full practice-level results are available here.
The Operating Framework for 2010/11 set out an expectation that PCTs will improve patients' experience of access to primary care while maintaining the commitment that all patients who wish to do so can see a GP within two working days. In addition, the Care Quality Commission considers results from the survey to assess PCT performance as part of the annual health check.
This spreadsheet shows PCT performance for Qs1-3 for the key access indicators that will be used to measure performance by the CQC and vital signs VSA 06. An additional sheet also shows average performance for each of the ONS cluster groups.
Overall performance will be based on data from all four quarters, which will be available in June.
Further information on the cluster groups can be found on the ONS website.
Further information on the CQC methodology for measuring performance of primary care access can be found on the CQC website.
The 2009/10 survey is to be sent to 1.4 million patients every quarter instead of running one annual survey. The first quarterly survey was sent in April 2009. Due to the small sample size at practice level from one quarter, DH will not publish results from the first quarter. Quarters 1 and 2 will be published in January 2010. In March/April 2010 quarters 1,2 and 3 should be available and the full results are to be published in June 2010.
Any queries about the 2009/10 GPPS should be addressed to your SHA in the first instance. Where necessary, SHAs enquiries can be made directly to the NHS PCC GP Patient Survey helpdesk gppatientsurvey@pcc.nhs.uk
GP practices were sent new information leaflets and posters to support the 2008/09 GP patient survey. The 2009/10 survey which went live on 6 April 2009 uses the same generic flyer and poster. PCTs are advised that they may wish to arrange for copies of the posters to be displayed in other public awareness that the survey is taking place. To support this a generic poster has been produced. All the materials are available below.
Guidance notes for the 2009/10 survey are yet to be published by the DH. However, notes for the 2008/09 survey can be found here.
Guidance from DH on payment processes and confidence intervals can be accessed here.
