This section describes the impact of the 'Planning and Priorities Framework for 2003-06' on the overall primary care estate - in terms of targets to upgrade 3,000 GP premises and create 500 new one-stop primary care centres by 2004.

PCTs are now expected to develop SSDPs for service delivery across their locality. The implications for primary and social care premises - including the need to ensure better access for patients and avoid social exclusion - are discussed.

This section also describes the impact that advances in medical and IM&T technology and increased expertise of primary care workers is having on primary and social care premises. It outlines the effect on the built environment of supporting the patient partnership.
