National director for primary care Ben Dyson opened the proceedings at the second national QOF consultation in Leeds last week with an upbeat assessment of the future development of the framework. Val Moore, implementation director of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) set out the timetable for development of the clinical indicators in 2009/10 and beyond. She stressed that the role of NICE would be to improve the evidence base in QOF development and the financial validity of the indicators. NICE will recruit its primary care consideration panel, comprising around 30 individuals including GPs, commissioners and health economists in early 2009. All speakers emphasised the importance of capturing the views of delegates during the consultation process. The events allocate plenty of time for questioning speakers, frank and open exchange of views and delegate workshops. Results of the consultations will be published in early 2009. Places are still available at the three remaining events in January.
