NHS South Gloucestershire held a strategic review in the light of David Nicholson’s letter of August 2009 outlining the QIPP agenda. Using the PCC Quality and Productivity Calculator (QPC) the PCT identified a potential 4% overspend on acute care and potential savings of £42m over four years. Commissioning and finance worked together to develop a strategy to maximise investment in primary and community care settings. The QPC enabled the PCT to analyse the correlations between investments in elective and unplanned care and allowed the executive team to revise the strategic plan accordingly.
