In response to feedback from PCTs we have produced a simple guide for PCTs to support the assessment of the patient participation DES in 2011/12.
This guide is in line with the toolkit available for practices and will therefore support a consistent approach to the requirements and therefore the assessment of the DES. These have been developed with the help of Dr Mike Warburton, previously national director of access at DH.
The Patient Participation DES aims to promote the proactive engagement of patients through the use of effective Patient Reference Groups (PRGs) and to seek views from practice patients through the use of a local patient survey. Guidance for patient participation is available here.
