This guide will support PCTs in implementing changes following analysis of their primary care spend, for example, after using the Quality and Productivity Calculator. It is important that PCTs get best value from primary care contracts. However, PCTs are encouraged to take a mature approach to commissioning and consider wider commissioning strategies when considering the changes they may wish to implement. Reinvestment in primary care may be appropriate to enable more significant productivity gains. The Quality and Productivity Calculator can support PCTs to identify these opportunities. This toolkit provides checklists for good management of primary care medical contracts.
