One consequence of the devolution of the pharmacy global sum is a change in the re-charging arrangements for hospital prescriptions dispensed in the community. This paper explains how the remuneration element of the re-charging formula has been changed as of 1 April 2010. It contains several examples of the impact of the changes and is accompanied by a ready reckoner to allow hospitals to calculate local charges. PCTs may wish to share the paper and ready reckoner with their hospital pharmacy colleagues.
