The DH has collated smoking related fire incidents and they do make for alarming reading:
There were 106 smoking related fires in the period April 10 – March 11, as well as 35 non smoking related.
We are working closely with the Fire and Rescue Service to ensure compliance to the provision of home safety checks and to continue to develop an awareness of the health and safety issues, including encouraging health professionals to educate patients about the danger of smoking, or having smokers in the house, when on home oxygen and about the related safety issues.
