Primary eyecare pathway redesign

Bexley Pathfinder Consortium has achieved significant cost saving through more appropriate referrals and decommissioning of services following the redesign of eyecare pathways. Led by David Parkins, an optometrist who is also PEC chair and clinical quality lead at Bexley, the initiative has improved referral to treatment ratios, reduced costs in one area (glaucoma referral) by nearly two-thirds and improved the experience of patients. A presentation about the pathway redesign programme is also available.
