As a minimum PCTs must include within their pharmaceutical needs assessment a map that identifies the premises within their area at which pharmaceutical services and dispensing services are provided (paragraph 8, Schedule 3A). PCTs are however using maps more extensively in the identification of service provision and gaps in provision and this paper outlines some of the approaches that have been taken.
